Dear Parents,
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for attending our Literacy Strategy Workshops! Your commitment to supporting your child's reading and writing journey is truly inspiring.
A special thank you to Ms. Rose for leading these engaging and insightful sessions. Her expertise and passion for literacy provided invaluable strategies to help children build strong reading and writing skills, setting them up for success.

Over the course of the workshops, Ms. Rose emphasized the five key pillars of literacy development: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. She introduced interactive and fun activities like sound swap games, letter hunts, echo reading, and word detective games—each designed to strengthen foundational literacy skills in an enjoyable way.
We also explored the HMH Into Reading program, which provides structured, systematic instruction to help students develop fluency, comprehension, and a love for reading. Ms. Rose shared how explicit phonics instruction, high-frequency word practice, and shared and independent reading play crucial roles in literacy development. She encouraged parents to support their children at home through word games, discussions about books, and encouraging independent reading to reinforce these skills.
Another key takeaway was the importance of background knowledge and real-life connections in reading comprehension. By engaging in meaningful discussions, exploring diverse texts, and using graphic organizers, children can deepen their understanding of what they read. Parents were also introduced to strategies for text analysis, including identifying the main idea, recognizing the author's purpose, making inferences, and finding text evidence—all essential skills for strong readers.
Writing was another focus of our discussions. Ms. Rose highlighted the integration of narrative, informational, research, and opinion writing into the literacy curriculum. She provided practical ways for parents to support grammar instruction, organization of ideas, and writing fluency at home.
We hope you walked away feeling empowered and equipped with new tools to make literacy learning exciting at home!
