Math Problem-Solving Strategies with Ms Cepeda

Dear Parents,

A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Math Problem-Solving Workshop led by the wonderful Ms. Cepeda. Your presence and engagement truly made the session special, and we appreciate your dedication to supporting your child's learning journey.

Ms. Cepeda shared invaluable insights on building a strong math foundation, emphasizing the importance of explicit teaching methods, critical thinking, and real-life math interactions. She highlighted strategies such as using visual aids, peer reviews, and independent practice to deepen understanding. Tools like the Envision platform and Savvas offer interactive exercises, videos, and assessments that connect school lessons with home practice, making learning accessible and fun.

Ms. Cepeda also encouraged parents to make math enjoyable through everyday activities — counting stairs, measuring ingredients while cooking, or checking receipts at the store. Engaging in games like Monopoly, card games, dice, dominoes, and using tools like measuring tapes, rulers, and Legos for fractions are great ways to reinforce concepts. Online math games can also add an extra layer of excitement to practice sessions.

Additionally, Ms. Cepeda emphasized the power of patience, guiding questions, and creating opportunities for independent problem-solving. She stressed the importance of vocabulary, showing work, and using quick checks to assess understanding, with extra support for students who need it. She also encouraged balancing digital and hands-on learning tools, fostering a love for math through both structured practice and playful exploration.

We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Cepeda for her thoughtful guidance and dedication to our students’ success. And to you, our wonderful parents, thank you for your commitment to making math a positive and integral part of your child's everyday life.
